San Joaquin County to Present Maps and Narrative on State Redistricting to California Citizen’s Redistricting Commission
October 22, 2021

(Stockton, CA) – San Joaquin County will be presenting proposed State maps and a narrative to the California Citizen’s Redistricting Commission (CRC) on Friday, October 22, 2021. This presentation will provide the County Board of Supervisor’s approved maps for Congressional, Assembly and Senate district proposed maps for the 2021 redistricting process. The CRC is holding three days of public comment which include presentations on maps between October 21 and October 23 in anticipation of their first draft maps being released on November 15, 2021.

San Joaquin County developed the map and narrative after a significant stakeholder and outreach process which included the creation of an Advisory Group, three public stakeholder outreach meetings, an online survey, and a phone survey. The result of these efforts were as follows:

  • The key findings from the surveys found that the majority of residents in San Joaquin County were in favor of keeping the voting districts exclusive to San Joaquin County and not including any other county.
  • The online survey showed that the top issue for San Joaquin County residents no matter what community was “water”. Water issues can vary and one of the top issues of concern was the drought, but also other issues of concern were water quality and water availability.
  • The County proposed maps are for one Congressional District representing all of San Joaquin County, one Senate District, and two Assembly Districts (one representing the eastern portion of the County and primarily urban, and one representing the western portion of the county and parts of Stanislaus County and primarily rural).

Supervisor Tom Patti, Chairman of the San Joaquin Board of Supervisors stated, “After a dedicated effort by the County and our partners, we are pleased to submit this presentation to the CRC which achieves the goal that we have heard from many residents of San Joaquin County – that the districts be drawn to represent primarily San Joaquin County residents.”
