San Joaquin County to Begin Temporary Overnight Closures of Eight Mile Road Bridge at Bishop Cut for Essential Rehabilitation Work

San Joaquin County, CA – The Eight Mile Road Bridge at Bishop Cut will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10:00 PM to 4:30 AM on the following dates:

  • Monday night, August 25 through Friday morning, August 29
  • Tuesday night, September 2 through Friday morning, September 5
  • Monday night, September 8 through Saturday morning, September 13

To accommodate motorists during the closure, traffic will be allowed to utilize the bridge to cross Bishop Cut at 12:00 AM and 2:00 AM each night.

These overnight closures are part of Phase 2 of San Joaquin County’s Movable Span Bridges maintenance project, focused on rehabilitating four of the County’s movable-span bridges in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. This rehabilitation project is essential to ensure long-term safety and operational reliability of the County’s movable span bridges.

Travel Impacts

Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly during the overnight closures. Advance notice will be provided through changeable message signs and online updates.

Project Status

Phase 1 of the Movable Span Bridges project is complete and included the rehabilitation of:

  • Bacon Island Road Bridge over Middle River
  • Tracy Boulevard Bridge over Grant Line Canal

Phase 2 is currently in progress and involves the rehabilitation of the Eight Mile Road Bridges over Honker Cut and Bishop Cut, located west of Stockton. Construction is ongoing and is expected to continue through January 31, 2026.
