Stockton, CA - The San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters (ROV) announced today that the Declaration of Candidacy Period for the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election opens on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Beginning on February 9, individuals interested in running for office can obtain the paperwork necessary from the ROV Office. The filing period ends on March 6, 2026, except for offices where the eligible incumbent does not file for re-election. In cases where no eligible incumbent is running, the filing period is extended to March 11.
“Running for office is one of the most direct ways residents can participate in our democracy,” said Olivia Hale, San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters. “Our office is here to ensure candidates understand the process and have the information they need to file accurately and on time. We encourage prospective candidates to review deadlines and requirements carefully to ensure a smooth filing process.”
The Federal, State and County offices to be filled in the 2026 June Primary Election are:
- United States Representative in Congress (Congressional Districts 5, 7, 8, 9 and 13)
- Governor
- Lieutenant Governor
- Secretary of State
- State Controller
- State Treasurer
- State Attorney General
- State Insurance Commissioner
- Member, State Board of Equalization (District 1)
- Member, State Assembly (Assembly Districts 9 and 13)
- San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge (Offices 1 through 9)
- State Superintendent of Public Instruction
- San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools
- Member, San Joaquin County Board of Education (Trustee Areas 3 and 4)
- Member, County Board of Supervisors (Supervisorial Districts 2 and 4)
- Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk
- County Auditor-Controller
- County Treasurer-Tax Collector
In order to provide candidates with an overview of the guidelines related to running for office, the ROV has compiled a Candidate’s Guide that is posted on the ROV website at www.sjcrov.org.
Criteria for qualification to run for office vary by jurisdiction and anyone unsure about their eligibility to seek office should contact the ROV office.
Filing of nomination papers must be completed by the deadline at the office of the Registrar of Voters at 44 N. San Joaquin Street, Suite 383, Stockton, CA 95202. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
