Stockton, CA – As the polls close for the California Special Election on Congressional Redistricting, the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters, Olivia Hale, shared the following statement:
“As polls close this evening, I’m pleased to report that Election Day in San Joaquin County went smoothly thanks to months of preparation, strong community participation, and the dedication of our election team and volunteers.
We opened all 128 polling places on time this morning at 7 a.m. and saw a steady stream of voters throughout the day, both casting ballots in-person and dropping off their Vote-by-Mail ballots. Our more than 1,000 staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that every voter had a positive, efficient, and secure voting experience.
As of November 3, 2025, 105,805 ballots were returned through Vote-By-Mail for a total of 26.02% of all registered voters. As of 8:00 p.m. on November 4, 2025, about 24,861 people voted in-person for a total of 6.2% of all registered voters.
The canvass of the election now begins, which includes counting Vote-by-Mail ballots postmarked by November 4, 2025; ballots received at polling places and ballot drop boxes by 8 p.m. on November 4; as well as verifying provisional and conditional voter registration ballots.
I want to extend my sincere thanks to our election workers for their professionalism and commitment, and to our voters for taking the time to make their voices heard. Your participation is what keeps our democracy strong — Your Vote, Your Voice.”
Election Results Reporting Timeline
Beginning at 8 p.m., the Registrar of Voters will release initial results for all Vote-by-Mail ballots received through Saturday, November 1, 2025, and all Early Voting ballots. This first report will provide a snapshot of the early voting period.
To keep the public informed, results will be updated every two hours until all in-person ballots cast on Election Day are counted. The next update will be posted on Friday, November 7, by 7 p.m., followed by updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by 7 p.m. until the canvass is complete.
This comprehensive process ensures that every valid ballot — including remaining Vote-by-Mail, provisional, and verified ballots — is counted accurately. The Registrar of Voters anticipates certifying the Statewide Special Election results on or before December 2, 2025.
