Stockton, CA - The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors ratified the January 1, 2023 Proclamation that declared a local state of emergency during a special session on January 4, 2023. This action formalized the Board’s acceptance of the Directors of Emergency Services decision to proclaim the emergency on behalf of the County on New Year’s Day. The action will afford the County additional flexibility when managing floodwaters and allow for state and federal reimbursement.
“The Resolution to extend our County’s State of Emergency enables the County to prioritize emergency operations and coordination efforts through the Office of Emergency Services,” said Tiffany Heyer, Director of the Office of Emergency Services.
While no major flooding events have occurred yet in San Joaquin County, the local emergency was proclaimed out of an abundance of caution and to best position local first responders to deal with possible impacts. In addition to the proclamation, the San Joaquin County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated Sunday December 31, 2022, as a precautionary measure. This action allowed the EOC to further prepare for potential flood events with its cities, local irrigation districts, and other partnering agencies. The EOC will remain activated until the current series of weather systems subsides.
Residents are asked to avoid flooded roads, remain clear of fast-moving creeks and rivers, and follow all emergency signage. When driving in the rain, always turn on your headlights.
Sandbags will remain available throughout the County. Up to date information on road closures, how and where to report flooding and downed trees, sandbag locations, and evacuation orders can be found at https://sjready.org/events/winter-storm.
