San Joaquin County Receives Federal Census Data, Will Begin Drawing New Supervisorial Redistricting Maps
September 23, 2021

(Stockton, CA) - San Joaquin County has recently received the updated 2020 Census Data and will be using that information to redraw the boundaries of the County’s five supervisorial districts. Redistricting takes place every 10 years after the Federal Census, when district boundaries for Federal, State, and local elected offices are redrawn to reflect new population data and shifting populations. The County has created an informational video to help explain the redistricting process, and residents are encouraged to draw their own lines using a mapping tool.

Residents of the County are invited to any of the upcoming public meetings either in-person or virtually, where they can learn more about the process, provide comments, and weigh in on how the maps should be drawn. The Redistricting Advisory Committee (RAC) meetings are meetings where the RAC will be drawing the district lines for the Board of Supervisor’s approval. The meeting schedule is as follows:

RAC Outreach Workshop:

Location: Hutchins Street Square, Kirst Hall: 125 S Hutchins St # A, Lodi, CA 95240

Date/time: Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m.

RAC Meetings:

Location: SJC Administration Building, Board Chambers: 44 N San Joaquin St, 6th Floor, Suite 636, Stockton, CA 95202

Dates/times:

Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday, November 10, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Receiving the Federal Census Data marks a major milestone in our supervisorial redistricting effort because it gives us the most up-to-date population data for our districts, allowing the map drawing process to begin. Our next step is to delve into this information with the Redistricting Advisory Committee and County residents to begin redrawing our district boundaries. I encourage anyone in the County who has yet to participate to attend our upcoming meetings, where you can weigh in on how the new maps should be drawn,” said San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Chairman Tom Patti.

If you are interested in redistricting at the State level for Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly, and State Board of Equalization, an informational session will be provided at the September 28, 2021 public outreach workshop from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. to discuss ways to get involved in the State redistricting process. More information on the State redistricting process can be found at https://www.wedrawthelinesca.org/, information on the County efforts can be found at https://www.sjgov.org/stateredistricting.

San Joaquin County (SJC) encourages County residents to participate in the process, including drawing their own districting boundaries online and submitting them to the County for consideration. To learn more about the redistricting process and ways to get involved, including a complete schedule of meetings, visit the SJC redistricting website at https://wedrawthelines.sjgov.org.
