The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors observed Mental Health Matters Month by approving $1.4 million to the Family Resource Center and supporting foster children and their journey to living safe and secure lives.
“Mental health impacts every member of our community,” said Sonny Dhaliwal, Chair of the Board and District 3 Supervisor. “Community organizations play a vital role in supporting the mental and physical well-being of our youth. By fostering positive relationships and meaningful connections early in life, they help lay the foundation for healthy, resilient adults who contribute to the strength of our community.”
The Board issued a proclamation in this week’s meeting recognizing May 2026 as Mental Health Matters Month in San Joaquin County. Mental health challenges are one of the most common health conditions in California, affecting one in five adults and most mental health conditions begin before age 24. In San Joaquin County, thousands of residents access behavioral health services.
The Family Resource Center will use the funds for its Emergency Child Care Bridge Program for the fiscal year July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027. The program provides emergency childcare vouchers to help pay for childcare costs, childcare navigation services to find long-term and appropriate care, and trauma-informed care training and coaching for providers.
