Stockton, CA – The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors approved several key community investments this week and convened a joint meeting with the Stockton City Council, demonstrating the value of regional collaboration and shared governance.
The joint session included appointments to the San Joaquin Regional Transit District Board. Geneva Moorad was selected as the joint City/County representative, while Aaron Edwards was appointed by the Board to serve independently. These appointments ensure continued local input on regional transit planning and decision-making.
Board Chair Sonny Dhaliwal, District Three, emphasized the importance of working together across jurisdictions. “Residents do not live or do business based on city and county lines; they want results. Sitting side by side with our City partners was a reminder that when local governments show up together, we can move faster and deliver better outcomes. It was a different kind of meeting, but a good one. My thanks to the Mayor and City Council for the partnership and the shared commitment to the people we serve.”
The Board also approved Supervisorial District discretionary funds to support local nonprofits, community programs, and public service initiatives across all five districts, including:
- District 2, Supervisor Paul Canepa: $5,000 for the 2026 Leadership Stockton Class Project at the County’s Family Justice Center
- District 4, Supervisor Steve Ding: $25,000 for Welcome Home Heroes Foundation and $5,000 for the San Joaquin Deputy Activity Fund
- District 5, Supervisor Robert Rickman: $12,816 for the Escalon Historical Society
In addition, the Board adopted its 2026 committee assignments, updating representation on key regional and policy bodies, including the Aviation Advisory Committee, Deferred Compensation Committee, Delta Protection Commission, and Eastern San Joaquin Groundwater District, while removing the Goodwin Tunnel Financing Authority listing. These assignments carry no additional County cost and allow supervisors to continue to report back regularly on committee activities.
The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesdays at the County Administration Building in downtown Stockton. Meetings are open to the public and streamed online.
