The San Joaquin County EMS Agency (SJCEMSA) is soliciting comments for draft revisions to several EMS Policies. These draft policies and forms may be viewed or downloaded from the Draft Policies page. The 45-day public comment period ends December 28, 2019. October 30, 2019 – EMS Policy No. 5700, Advanced Life Support Treatment Protocols

The San Joaquin County Emergency Medical Services Agency (SJCEMSA) has posted the updated EMS Policy No. 5700 Advanced Life Support (ALS) Treatment Protocols. These protocols will be effective starting April 1, 2020 and can be viewed on our Policies webpage. The public comments received and responses to those comments can also be viewed on the Draft Policies page. SJCEMSA will be working with ALS Providers on training and curriculum roll out. Thank you to all individuals and organizations that submitted comments and feedback during the editing process.

October 1, 2019 - SJCEMSA Welcomes New EMS Trauma Coordinator

Rick Crisp has joined the SJC EMS Agency as an EMS Trauma Coordinator. Mr. Crisp has more than 32 years of emergency and trauma care experience working in the emergency department, the aeromedical field, and as a trauma center nurse clinician. September 12, 2019 - Flu Vaccine Mandate Issued by San Joaquin Health Officer

Health Officer Dr. Kismet Baldwin, MD, MPH, has issued an order directing all Health Care Workers, including prehospital care personnel, to receive a flu vaccination for the flu season (generally November 1 through April 30th). Prehospital care personnel declining to be vaccinated will be required to wear a surgical mask to prevent droplet transmission to patients. Click here to read the order. September 11, 2019 - SJCEMSA Welcomes New EMS Analyst

Tina Shahani has joined the SJC EMS Agency as an EMS Analyst. Ms. Shahani has 10 years of health care experience as Manager of Primary and Specialty Care, and has been awarded a Master’s Degree in Public Health with emphasis in Health Care Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Sciences. June 20, 2019 - Renewal of EMT Certification after July 1, 2019

EMT applicants renewing after July 1, 2019 will need to submit a continuing education certificate or training certificate from an approved training program or continuing education provider for the following three (3) modalities:
  1. Administration of naloxone.
  2. Administration of epinephrine by auto-injector.
  3. Use of a glucometer.
The training shall meet the requirements of California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Division 9, Chapter 2, Section 100075.

March 12, 2019 - Northern California SUID/SIDS Training Save the Date

The California Department of Public Health, Northern California SIDS Program 2019 Training will be held on April 26, 2019 at the Solano County Events Center, 601 Texas Street, Fairfield, CA 94533 from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. This course complies with mandatory requirements for preparing public health professionals and EMS personnel to support families and child care providers impacted by a SIDS tragedy. February 7, 2019 - Updated and New Policies

The San Joaquin County EMS Agency has revised and/or adopted several policies effective February 1, 2019. Prehospital and hospital personnel are encouraged to read, study, and implement those policies pertaining to their role within the EMS system.

Revised Policies:

A. EMS Policy No. 2310, Emergency Medical Technician Certification, revised to address requirements from AB 2293 for the collecting of demographic data.

B. EMS Policy No 2540B, Paramedic Skills Verification Form No. 2540B, revised to address skills and formatting changes to the form.

C. EMS Policy No. 5210, Major Trauma Triage Criteria, added guidance for pregnant trauma patients, and clarified criteria for patients in spinal motion restriction with neurologic complaints or neurologic findings.

D. EMS Policy No. 5542, BLS Poisoning and Overdose, revised to address naloxone use by approved BLS personnel and departments.

E. EMS Policy No. 6715, Trauma Audit Committee, revised membership of TAC.

February 4, 2019 - SJCEMSA Welcomes New Trauma/Critical Care Coordinator

Dan Burch, EMS Administrator, is pleased to announce that Jeff Costa, RN, has joined the San Joaquin County EMS Agency staff. Mr. Costa will be filling the role of Trauma/Critical Care Coordinator. He comes to SJC EMS Agency from San Joaquin General Hospital with experience in intensive care nursing. Prior to his nursing career Mr. Costa worked as a paramedic in Stanislaus County. He has a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Western Governors University. In his new role, Mr. Costa will primarily be responsible for STEMI, Stroke, Critical Care Transport, and trauma system evaluation. Please join us in welcoming Mr. Costa to the SJC EMS Agency.

February 4, 2019 - 2019 Spring Prehospital Care Symposium

The San Joaquin County EMS Agency is presenting a Spring Prehospital Care Symposium on March 26, 2019; beginning promptly at 8:30 am. The San Joaquin County EMS Agency has posted the following new policy to the EMS Policies page: EMS Policy No. 3205, Responses to EMS Incidents in the Unprotected Area. This policy was developed to address the recent decision by Stockton Fire Department to reduce response to EMS incidents in the unprotected area of San Joaquin County.
