Paramedic Initial & Continuous Accreditation


HOW DO I BECOME ACCREDITED?

Initial Accreditation
  1. Paramedic Accreditation Application.
  2. Application Fee (non-refundable).
  3. Proof of affiliation with an approved SJCEMSA ALS provider. (Online Application Portal will submit this automatically to the affiliated provider.)
  4. Copy of a valid California Paramedic license.*
  5. Copy of a valid state or federal ID.
  6. A copy (front and back) of your current CPR card for the Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider issued from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or another program approved by the SJCEMSA.
  7. Must attend and successfully pass the Paramedic Accreditation Orientation (PAO) course.
    *PAO prerequisites: MICR, X-Collar, and LUCAS 3 Chest Compression System certificates

Note: You must have prior authorization from SJCEMSA to complete the pre-accreditation field evaluation.
  • Submit a completed Paramedic Accreditation Field Evaluation form (2540A).
  • Submit proof of completing Paramedic Competency Verification (2540B).

    * If on probation with the California EMS Authority or local EMS Agency, submit a copy of the stipulation agreement with application. 
  • Continuous Accreditation

    1. Paramedic Accreditation Application.
    2. Proof of affiliation with an approved SJCEMSA ALS provider. (Online Application Portal will submit this automatically to the affiliated provider.)
    3. Copy of a valid California Paramedic license.*
    4. Copy of a valid state or federal ID.
    5. A copy (front and back) of your current CPR card for the Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider issued from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or another program approved by the SJCEMSA.
    6. Must attend and successfully pass the Policy and Skills Review (PSR) course within six (6) months prior to expiration of current accreditation.

      * If on probation with the California EMS Authority or local EMS Agency, submit a copy of the stipulation agreement with application.

    Note: All documents submitted must legible to be accepted.

    Q: How do I get accredited after a lapse?

    It depends on the length of your lapse period:

    Applicants who have let their accreditation lapse less than six months shall complete the re-accreditation process and pay the accreditation application fee.

    Applicants who have let their accreditation lapse more than six months must complete the initial accreditation process inlcuding paying the accreditation application fee.
