SJC Board of Supervisors Approves Grants Benefitting Victim-Witness and Family Justice Center

San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas is excited to announce the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors accepted $196,906 and $374,364 for the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office Victim-Witness Unit and Family Justice Center respectively.

“Thank you to the Board of Supervisors for their continued support in our efforts to best serve all victims in San Joaquin County,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas. “For our county to receive these competitive grants speaks volumes of the quality of work being completed by the Victim-Witness Services Unit and Family Justice Center. I am grateful to lead such accomplished units with the goal to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.”

The Unserved/Underserved Victim Advocacy and Outreach Grant provides funding for two full-time Victim-Witness Advocates to increase access to culturally appropriate services for underrepresented victims and survivors of crime. This includes training and sufficient support for partnering law enforcement agencies as they respond to calls within the geographic area chosen in the grant application.

The County Victim Services (XC) Grant provides funding to the San Joaquin County Family Justice Center for program materials, staff, and any identified existing gaps in victim service structure. The San Joaquin County Family Justice Center is committed to breaking the generational cycles of violence and trauma, which has statistically shown to cause a lasting impact on individuals and families.
