Defendant Found Guilty of Stockton Murder, Attempted Robbery

Today, San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announced a jury found defendant Rangel Gumesindi Hernandez, 36, guilty of murder and attempted robbery.

“I would like to congratulate Deputy District Attorney Alexander Henry and the Stockton Police Department for holding the defendant and co-defendants accountable for their vile actions,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas. “My thoughts are with the Saldana family during this very difficult time.”

On January 13, 2020, Stockton Police Department Officers responded to the area of E. Seventh Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, Officers found the victim, Richard Saldana, 36, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to the hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. According to eyewitness testimony, the defendant, Rangel Gumesindi Hernandez approached the victim with the intent to rob him, but shot the victim when confronted. 

The defendant returns before the Honorable Judge Lance Jacot in Department 7A of the San Joaquin County Superior Court on May 1, 2023 for sentencing. Co-defendants Daniel Miranda-Lick and Alonzo Fabian Talavera pled guilty to attempted robbery charges and were sentenced to 16-months in prison each.
