The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team is like the mapping and data hub for Public Works. Led by the GIS Program Manager, they are in charge of creating, collecting, and managing all the geographic data used by the department. Using specialized mapping software and GPS equipment, the GIS team keeps a detailed digital record of all the county's infrastructure and assets, from roads and bridges to legal boundaries. They analyze this data by layering it to create new insights, which helps the department make data driven decisions and manage its resources more effectively. The GIS unit also works closely with the larger San Joaquin County GIS team to ensure all data is accurate and compatible with the county's systems.
