Organic Production integrates cultural, biological, and mechanical practices fostering the cycling of resources, promoting ecological balance and conserving biodiversity.

The County Agricultural Commissioner enforces the laws and regulations established by the State Organic Program and National Organic Program to ensure integrity of organic production is maintained.
Organic Certification for crops requires maintenance of the agricultural site free from prohibited pesticides for a period of 36 months. To become recognized nationally as an Organic Establishment, the Producer may choose to be come "Certified Organic." Certification is required for all Producers with gross sales amount to $5,000 or greater.
Approval as a Certified Organic Operation enables the Producer to utilize the USDA Organic Seal on their organic products. The Agricultural Commissioner's Office conducts inspections at growing grounds, farmers' markets, restaurants and retail and wholesale stores. San Joaquin County Agricultural Biologists / Standards Inspectors audit and inspect producers and facilities to assure that the public receives organic products as certified.
