Public Safety is our priority and the Department will continue to meet the needs of the community. All operations are currently running with limited modifications based on orders from the Superior Court. The Department maintains its normal business hours.

  • Our building is open to the general public with certain access restrictions. We request everyone wear face masks when entering the building. We are still meeting with victims by appointment and processing paperwork concerning restraining orders and victim compensation claims.

Public Safety is a priority and the Department will continue phone contacts and essential office visits (i.e. Assessments, PSI's, Prop 63, Rules of Probation, initial Pretrial appointments) with clients. Field Services will respond to public safety issues related to clients. Department office locations remain open to the public. Fiscal services remain as usual.

Field and Court Services:
CCP Task Force, Delta Ratt, FBI Task Force, and the Metro Unit remain in operation.

Adult Pretrial:
Operations will remain open at 7000 Micheal Canlis Blvd. (County Jail)

Juvenile Hall and Camp:
Peterson Juvenile Hall and Camp Peterson remain a 24-hour 7-day a week youth detention and commitment facility.

Field and Court Services:
Pretrial Monitoring suspended all on-going in-person weekly visits and transitioned to telephone reporting.

All non-essential field work is suspended. If there is a public safety issue that needs to be addressed, Administration is to be advised.

Placement visits with youth will temporarily occur via Skype.

Peterson Juvenile Hall and Camp Peterson:
No San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) teachers are on-site. They are sending assignments through the use of Google Classroom and teachers are interacting with students via video tutorials and phone calls. Students enrolled in College remain in on-line education.

In-person visitation has been suspended. Visits between youth and families is occurring through the use of Skype, Face Time and additional free phone calls. If families have no available technology, non-contact visits are afforded.

All programming from outside vendors in the Juvenile Hall and Camp Peterson are suspended. Programming provided by our staff in the Institution remains in effect.

Large group religious services in the facility are suspended. Youth can request a one-on-one, no contact visit, with a religious provider.

All conferences, large group training sessions, and non-essential travel has been cancelled or postponed.

All operations are currently running in preparation of the Superior Court resuming normal court operations. The department maintains its normal business hours and is open to the public.

Limited or Modified Services

Based on the Superior Court's General Emergency Relief Order, issued March 17, 2020, suspending most of their operations, the department continues to handle adult in-custody arraignments, time-not-waived preliminary hearings, civil mental health hearings, juvenile detention orders, time-not-waived juvenile hearings, dependency detention orders and time-not-waived detention hearings. The department is conducting intake interviews telephonically.

With the court's suspension of most operations, the department has been unable to handle misdemeanor and felony jury trials, all adult, juvenile and dependency calendars and time-waived hearings and all other civil and criminal court appearances.

  • Social Workers face to face monthly contacts with foster youth have been expanded to include videoconferencing options (i.e. Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, etc.)
  • Child Advocacy Center - Priority of forensic face-to-face interviews given to cases with immediate safety threats; have immediate deadlines by law enforcement and on a case-by-case basis. All other interviews are temporarily postponed.
  • San Joaquin County Courts are operating on a limited basis for Emergency Cases (Detention Hearings, Transfer-In Cases and on a case-by-case basis).
  • Some in person visits between parents/children/siblings are temporarily suspended with alternative methods of virtual visitation provided.
  • Resource Family Approval Orientations are only being held for families if they have a relative child placed with them on an emergency basis. Orientations in English will be held the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 9am - noon via videoconference. Orientations in Spanish will be held the 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 4:30pm - 7:30pm via videoconference.
  • All Child and Family Team Meetings are now being held via telephone calls or videoconference.
  • Service providers that include Counseling, Substance Abuse and Parenting Classes are being offered to families through videoconferencing or telephone calls.
