Environmental Health Department

Environmental Health Emergency Response Program

Program Shortcuts:

EHD staff is part of the interagency emergency response team for incidents involving hazardous material spills or releases. The EHD performs a health assessment to evaluate actual or potential environmental contamination and/or human exposure. The EHD provides recommendations for short and long-term cleanup and oversees the cleanup activities performed by the responsible parties or environmental assessment firms. Health follow-up of exposed individuals and their physicians is also conducted. Complaints regarding improper disposal of household hazardous waste are also investigated by the EHD.

**Please note, after hour phone calls to the EHD will be routed to the San Joaquin County General Hospital, who screens and dispatches calls to the on-call staff if appropriate at that time.**
