December 20, 2016 - Draft EMS Policy No. 3202 Available for Public Comment
The San Joaquin County EMS Agency is re-releasing EMS Policy No. 3202, Medical Priority Dispatch System Assignments for public comment through January 19, 2017. SJCEMSA is proposing two substantive changes to address the majority of comments received during the previous public comment period: 1) Align the response mode (RLS or NRLS) of ambulance and EMR resources in the majority of determinants; and 2) Maintain the EMR determinant assignments as in existing policy. December 5, 2016 - EMS Agency Office temporary relocation
Effective Tuesday, December 5, 2016, the San Joaquin County EMS Agency is temporarily relocating its main office to the east wing of Benton Hall in Room 9, adjacent to Health Care Services Administration. This temporary relocation is expected to last through January 2017. On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, several of the EMS Agency's offices experienced water damage from a severed water line on the second floor of Benton Hall West. November 18, 2016 - 2017 MICN Policy Skills Review (PSR) Course
The 2017 MICN Policy Skills Review (PSR) Course schedule has been added to the Upcoming Training & Events webpage. The intended audience are authorized MICN's. This course is provided at no cost to the participant. The course objective is to improve understanding of key EMS medical control policies as related to the role of the MICN. The course is 3 hours with the written San Joaquin County EMS Agency Policies exam testing to follow. The exam is closed book and you must have a score of 80% or higher to pass and be issued a course completion certificate (CE certificate). MICN's should register at least (30) days prior to the date of their selected course. Up to three (3) hours of instructor-based EMS and BRN CE will be offered. Provider is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 1524 for up to 3 contact hours. CA EMS CE provided by San Joaquin County EMS Agency CEP# 39-0001.
November 17, 2016 - 2017 Paramedic Preceptor's Conference Schedule
The 2017 Paramedic Preceptor's Conferences are scheduled for Monday, May 1, 2017, and Friday, September 15, 2017, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, in the San Joaquin County EMS Agency Classroom. The conferences are open to current Paramedic Preceptors and offered at no cost. Attending one conference per year is required to maintain a Paramedic Preceptor Authorization. The format is round table discussion and will include the following topics: best practices, evaluation & remediation, communication, roles & responsibilities, and reportable offenses. Up to two (2) hours of instructor-based, EMS CE will be offered. CA EMS CE provided by San Joaquin County EMS Agency CEP#39-0001. September 22, 2016 - SJCEMSA Welcomes New Pre-Hospital Care Coordinator
Dan Burch, EMS Administrator, is pleased to announce that Andrew Sulyma has joined the SJC EMS Agency staff filling the role of Pre-Hospital Care Coordinator. Mr. Sulyma's background includes nine years as a Paramedic, most recently as a clinical field supervisor and as the Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) Commander for the Alameda County TEMS Team. He is a certified instructor for Tactical Combat Casualty Care, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, and Prehospital Trauma Life Support. September 12, 2016 - EMS adds new Critical Care Coordinator to staff
Dan Burch, EMS Administrator, is pleased to announce that Mary Barnes, RN has joined the EMS Agency staff, filling the role of Critical Care Coordinator. Ms. Barnes comes to us from San Joaquin General Hospital where she worked as a Registered Nurse for the past 13 years, most recently as a Clinical Nurse Educator. She holds a certification in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and is a State Licensed Paramedic. September 2, 2016 - Flu Vaccine Mandate Issued by San Joaquin Health Officer
Health Officer Dr. Alvaro Garza, MD, MPH, has issued an order directing all Health Care Workers, including prehospital care personnel, to receive a flu vaccination for the flu season (generally November 1 through April 30th). Prehospital care personnel declining to be vaccinated will be required to wear a surgical mask to prevent droplet transmission to patients. Click here to read the order for more information. May 2, 2016 - Active Threat Plan Draft Available for Public Review and Comment
The San Joaquin County EMS Agency is soliciting comments on a draft Active Threat Plan. The purpose of the Active Threat Plan is to develop common procedures for the deployment and use of a Rescue Task Force (RTF) to quickly move victims of an active shooter/hostile event (ASHE) to an area to receive medical care. The draft plan may be viewed or downloaded from the Draft Policies web page. April 22, 2016 - PAO and PSR Class Location Changed for May 24 Course
The May 24, 2016, Paramedic Accreditation Orientation (PAO) class and ALS Policy and Skills Review (PSR) class location has changed. The course location has been moved to the Health Plan of San Joaquin, Community Room, 7751 South Manthey Road, French Camp, CA 95231. Parking is limited and attendees are encouraged to carpool. March 18, 2016 - EMS Response Vehicle Medication and Equipment Policy Update Notice
Revisions to EMS Policy 4101 EMS Response Vehicle Medication and Equipment, become effective on July 1, 2016. This policy has been posted to the EMS Policies and Procedures page of the EMS Agency's website. Click here for the associated memorandum. This policy combines and replaces EMS Policy 4102 BLS Medication and Equipment List, and the previous version of EMS Policy 4101 ALS Medication and Equipment Inventory. EMS Providers may begin adopting the new requirements of EMS Policy 4101 prior to the effective date of July 1, 2016.

February 26, 2016 - Prohibition Against the Use of Gurney Cars or Litter Vans in San Joaquin County
The San Joaquin County Emergency Medical Services Agency (SJCEMSA) has ordered Journey Via Gurney (JVG) to cease the provision of unauthorized gurney/litter transport service in accordance with San Joaquin County Ordinance No. 4231. Any person or organization requesting or arranging the use of a non-permitted ambulance may be subject to civil or criminal penalties. February 3, 2016 - Draft Policies Available for Public Review
The EMS Agency is soliciting public comments on the following revised and proposed EMS Policies.
15-day public comment period: EMS Policy No. 4101 EMS Response Vehicle Medication and Equipment – This policy completed a 45 day public comment period on January 2, 2016. In response to comments received and subsequent changes made by the EMS Agency, this policy draft is to be re-issued for an additional (15) fifteen day public comment period. The draft policy and the comments received during the initial 45-day comment period may be viewed or downloaded from the Draft Policies page. The deadline for submitting additional comments on this policy is February 18, 2016.
45-day public comment period: EMS Policy No. 5707 ALS Adult Pain Management and EMS Policy No. 5839 Pediatric Pain Management - These draft policies are available for public comment for a 45-day comment period and may be viewed or downloaded from the Draft Policies page. January 13, 2016 - Crisis Intervention Training for Emergency Responders Course
San Joaquin County Behavioral Health Services is hosting a Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) for Emergency Responders on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, from 8 am to 5 pm. It will be held at the Robert J. Cabral Agricultural Center, Assembly Room 2, 2101 E. Earhart Avenue, Stockton, CA 95206; See flyer for additional details. This course is offered at no cost and is open to all San Joaquin County EMS Personnel (ALS and BLS providers). San Joaquin County EMS Agency will provide 8 (eight) hours of EMS CE's to participants, California EMS CE Provider #39-0001. Participants can register on our events page. Effective immediately, the San Joaquin County EMS Agency has issued Policy Memorandum No. 2016-01 to provide guidance on EMS Policy No. 5115, Cervical Spine Stabilization, and to prevent the misapplication of the Kendrick's Extrication Device (KED).
