In 2016, Four DCSS employees conceptualized the Block Party as part of a Leadership Cohort sponsored by the department. The vision of the project was to enhance the relationships with the families we serve,
other San Joaquin County departments and our local community organizations. The Block Party began as a way to kick off Child Support Awareness Month. Each August, Child Support Awareness Month is observed to
highlight the importance of child support services. Efforts are made to demonstrate how child support professionals assist families and children by establishing parental relationships and obligations; including
financial and medical support. What started as a small collaboration with 25 vendors and 150 attendees has grown to over 70 vendors and 500 attendees. Each year at the event, we provide resources to the
families through our department and our wonderful community partners: fun-filled activities for the families and children, entertainment, prizes to the parents and, most importantly, backpacks filled with school
supplies. In 2019, we were able to give away 435 backpacks donated by our generous employees, vendors and sponsors. While this year's event looks a little different, we are still very appreciative of those who
are participating. We hope you find the following resources valuable.
We hope you will partner with us by providing your thoughts on how the site works for you.
We will take your feedback and use it to continue our redevelopment efforts!
