    Stockton – Today, District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced that Megan Lee Ranada, age 36, was sentenced on Friday, November 22, 2019, to 1 year in county jail after pleading no contest to two counts of Penal Code Section 192( c) (1), gross vehicular homicide. She pled “open” to the charges that held a maximum sentence of 7 years 4 months in state prison.

  • Man sentenced today in brutal slaying of local Stockton man and stabbing of two others

    Stockton - Today, District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced that Michael McPherson, age 33, was sentenced to 26 years to life in state prison for the brutal slaying of Elvin Rash,Sr., in downtown Stockton in the area of Hunter and Sonora Streets on February 9, 2019. He also stabbed and severely injured John Johnson and Randy Martel and was sentenced to life terms for their attempted murders to run concurrent to the murder sentence.

    California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, San Joaquin County District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar, and Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones today announced the arrest of 49 individuals; the seizure of 41 firearms, including 8 assault weapons; and the seizure of approximately 25 pounds of drugs, including fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine as part of a takedown of gang members in Stockton.

    On August 27th, 2019, Defendant Shunichi Fujishima entered pleas to felony violations of Penal Code section 288.5(a), Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 14, and 288.2(a)(2), Sending/Exhibiting Harmful Matter to a Minor. He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 7, 2019, to serve 12 years in state prison.

    The District Attorney of San Joaquin County has filed the following charges against Defendant Jeff Hardcastle: a felony violation of Penal Code Sections 245(a)(4), Assault with Force likely to cause Great Bodily Injury, and a felony violation of PenalCode Section 273d(a), Child Abuse with Great Bodily Injury to Victim 1 (age 5). He was further charged with additional violations of Penal Code section 245(a)(4) and Penal Code section 273d(a) as to a second victim (age 11). The defendant has two prior"strike" convictions and prison priors. The District Attorney requested bail and it was set in the amount of 2.3 million dollars.; The case returns to court on September 16, 2019.

Assembly Bill 465 would strengthen and clarify the court process for firearm relinquishment for those who, under current law, should not have guns because they have a domestic violence restraining order against them.

    STOCKTON - People v Aaron Weddles and Princess Canez-Walker. Today, Weddles, 42, and Canez-Walker, 34, entered guilty pleas to eight (8) counts of Child Endangerment [Penal Code section 273a(a)]. The child endangerment charges relate to the couple’s overall neglect, abandonment, and failure to protect and provide for their eight (8) children, whose ages ranged from one month to 12 years of age. In exchange for their pleas today, Weddles and Canez-Walker were sentenced to fifteen (15) years and four (4) months in state prison.

  • Youth Leadership Academy Enters its Final Week

    On June 10th, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office kicked off the San Joaquin County Justice System Youth Leadership Academy in coordination with Superior Court Judge Vlavaiaos. A record number of students, representing 27 high schools were accepted to the five-week program, which includes classroom, courtroom, and field trips for a behind-the-scenes, hands-on, interactive experience with the justice system.
