Youth Leadership Academy Students Graduate

Today, District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar and members of the County Board of Supervisors presided over the Youth Leadership Academy Class of 2022 Graduation Ceremony.

“My sincerest and most heartfelt congratulations to each and every graduating student from the Youth Leadership Academy class,” said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. “These exceptional students are the leaders of tomorrow. We are proud of their growth and eagerness to engage, learn, and offer new insight into the criminal justice system.”

The Youth Leadership Academy is a five-week intensive summer program hosted and facilitated by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office. Open to high-school students in San Joaquin County, this program allows students to develop both personal and professional leadership skills. In addition to interpersonal skills, students are given an in-depth look into the criminal justice system and the many professions within the District Attorney’s Office, the Courts, Law Enforcement, and more. The program is designed to motivate and inspire the next generation of San Joaquin County leaders- young adults who are thoughtful, ethical, and ready to make a positive impact on our community.

Over the course of the five weeks, students engaged with speakers from various offices- including the Sheriff’s Office, Probation, local law enforcement agencies, the Ripon Crime Lab, the Public Defender’s Office, and many more- and encounter real-life scenario training alongside Stockton Police Department. At the end of the sessions, students were tasked with investigating a crime, preparing a case, and participating in a mock trial.
