Stockton - Today, San Joaquin County District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced that the grand jury has indicted Alejandro Cardenas Tafoya, a Correctional Officer at the San Joaquin County Jail, of sexual assault crimes, including oral copulation by force (PC 287(c) (2)(a)), sexual penetration by force (PC289(a)(1)(A)), false imprisonment by violence, fraud or deceit (PC 237), and assault by a police officer (PC 149).
"We must protect women from sexual violence irrespective of their circumstance," said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. "When law enforcement officers violate their oath and authority and abuse members of the community, they will be held accountable. The District Attorney's Office commends the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office for believing victims, conducting a thorough investigation, and for partnering with our office to seek justice."
Tafoya was arraigned on these charges on December 2, at 1:30PM. After the defense counsel has reviewed the indictment transcripts, any unsealed records will be made available to the public in our continued effort for transparency.
