Jury Convicts Defendant Travis Burgess on Domestic Violence Charges

Stockton - In light of Domestic Awareness Month, District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced a jury found defendant Travis Burgess guilty on domestic violence, assault with great bodily injury charges, and dissuading a witness from testifying in court.

"As a community, we must stand up to domestic and familial violence," said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. "Family violence impacts our community, leaving lasting harm if not treated. This is why assisting victims and survivors of domestic violence is a priority. The San Joaquin County Family Justice Center was created under my administration and the Victim-Witness services unit tripled in size in order to address these harms. The additional resources ensure victims and survivors who come through our doors have access to a path to healing."

Stockton Police Department officers were called to the Waterfront Hotel in the early hours of September 11, 2019. When they arrived on scene, the victim had severe bruising to her face including black eyes, a laceration on her nose and lip, bruising to her ear, arms, legs, and neck from attempted strangulation. During the trial process, the defendant called the victim to dissuade her from attending court proceedings. Defendant Travis Burgess was found guilty on all counts by the jury.

"Thank you to Deputy District Attorney Samagnya Duvvuri for seeking justice for the victim and her family," said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. The San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office would also like to recognize the victim for her bravery, the jury for their time and dedication, and the Stockton Police Department for their investigative work on the case.

The defendant returns December 6, 2021, for sentencing. To learn more about the Family Justice Center and resources provided through the District Attorney's Office visit our Victim-Witness Services page, or
