Defendant Sentenced To 25 Years In Killing Of 16-Year Old

Stockton - District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announces that defendant Ronnie Coleman was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison by the Honorable Bernard J. Garber for the 2018 killing of a 16- year-old teenager.

According to court records, the defendant set up a meeting with the victim via Instagram to purchase marijuana. During the transaction, the defendant attempted to rob the victim of the marijuana, while a second unknown individual approached the vehicle to shine a flashlight and laser pointer at the victim. At that time, the victim reached for a handgun, but was shot in the back by the defendant. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We hope this resolution can bring the victim's family some comfort and closure," said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. "Getting guns out of the hands of teenagers has got to be a priority for this community. They have to learn violence is never the answer."

Thank you to Deputy District Attorney Donald Vaughn and Stockton Police Department Sergeant Joe Bitondo for working diligently to bring this case to a successful conclusion, as well as Liliana Delgadillo from Victim-Witness Services for providing the victim's family with support during this difficult time.
