David Khouny Pech Sentenced to LWOP for 2017 Homicide

Stockton - District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced that on Monday March 1, 2021, David Khouny Pech, age 22, was sentenced to Life Without the Possibility of Parole plus 57 years to life in the California Department of Corrections (CDCR) for the killing of Saroeun Keo, age 57, and the attempted murder of another surviving victim.

According to court transcripts, on the evening of September 7, 2017, the defendant lured his "uncle" out of a residence on Greensboro Way in Stockton to discuss a marijuana transaction. The defendant, armed with a handgun, was waiting outside for him with a second gunman. As soon as the "uncle" and his friend Mr. Keo walked outside, they were met with a hail of gunfire from the two shooters. Mr. Keo was killed and the "uncle" was gravely wounded. The defendant was identified as one of the two shooters by the surviving uncle who was brave enough to testify. A jury convicted him on February 27, 2020, of Murder and the Special Circumstance of Lying-in-Wait. He was also convicted of Attempted Murder and firearm use enhancements. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the retirement of the Honorable William Johnson, who originally presided over the jury trial, it has taken nearly a year to sentence the defendant.

District Attorney Salazar would like to thank Stockton police Detective Lisa Askloff of the robbery-homicide unit for her tireless efforts to investigate this matter and Deputy District Attorney Edward McGarvey for his skillful prosecution of this case.

One person remains outstanding for this senseless killing. We urge anyone with information to contact the Stockton Police Department or CrimeStoppers at 209-946-0600.
