People v. Alvin Larry Davis

Today, Davis, 78, was sentenced for the July 5, 2012 murder of Hazel Dingman who was 84 years old at the time of her murder. Davis was sentenced to life in state prison without the possibility of parole plus a 25 to life in prison term.

Davis was charged with and later convicted last November of one count of murder with the special circumstance allegation of murder in the commission of rape by a foreign object; one count of sexual penetration with a foreign object; four special allegations regarding the rape; and, one allegation that the victim was over 65 years of age. Davis was also charged with one prior "strike''; a 1964 robbery and kidnapping conviction.

In ruling on a pre-sentencing motion, the Judge remarked that in his 40 years in the court system, the murder of Ms. Dingman was the most violent event he has ever encountered,

At the sentencing today, Ms. Dingman's family were in attendance but chose not to speak.

The case was prosecuted by the Office's Elder Abuse Unit.
