On Tuesday, May 14th, 2019 Iturralde, 60, was convicted by a jury of nine counts of sexual molestation (Penal Code section 288 (A)) involving four different victims. Iturralde was also convicted of attempting to dissuade three of the victims from testifying. (Penal Code section 136.1(A)(2).)
The trial testimony established that Iturralde and his wife were foster parents. They fostered, then adopted, 3 brothers - all listed victims of the molestation. Iturralde molested the three brothers between 2002 through 2009 when the boys were ages 9 through 14. Later, as adults, the brothers reported the molestation to police in 2017.
During the investigation, a fourth victim, who is now 12, came forward to report sexual abuse by Iturralde. He too was a foster child.
The abuse occurred in three counties: San Joaquin, Alameda, and Calaveras. Alameda and Calaveras counties consented to San Joaquin prosecuting all the crimes together here.
Iturralde will return to court for sentencing on July 29. Iturralde is facing a sentence of 60 years to life in state prison.
The case is being prosecuted by the Child Abuse Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit of the Office's Family Crimes Unit.
