People v. Jana Marie Bolter

STOCKTON, CA - On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, Jana Marie Bolter of Lathrop (age 49) entered guilty pleas to felony charges of Grand Theft (CA PC 487 with an enhancement of 186.11(a)(2) (taking more than $500k)).

Bolter was employed as the bookkeeper and office manager of Brown Sand, Inc. in Lathrop, California from February 2010 to August 2017; and was accused of using her position to pad the payroll and generate charges on the corporation's charge accounts amounting in the total of $885,081.01. The victims expect full recovery.

Bolter has been in custody since September, and will be sentenced on January 24, 2018 at 8:30am in San Joaquin County Court, Department 8B.

This case was brought to the District Attorney's office by the San Joaquin County Sheriff, and charged by Deputy District Attorney Stephen Taylor.

This case is one of many cases filed by the San Joaquin District Attorney involving executives and bookkeeping staff charged with embezzlement from local employers. District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar asks local businesses to maintain strong accounting controls and full insurance coverage to protect their businesses and the jobs these businesses provide for the community.
