San Joaquin County District Attorney Press Release

San Joaquin County Pathologists Drs. Bennett Omalu and Susan Parson have made our office aware of concerns in the operations of their office and requested the District Attorney to investigate. Their investigation has been initiated and is ongoing. When the investigation is complete, this office will review the facts as presented and make the appropriate decisions at that time.

The San Joaquin County District Attorney's office reviews every request for an investigation. In 2017, the District Attorney's investigative unit has reviewed over 450 investigations. In reviewing a request for investigation, the investigative unit determines whether criminal investigation is warranted. In certain cases, the investigative unit will partner with outside agencies to evaluate its investigation and findings. If and when a conflict exists, our office will defer our investigation to that outside agency to proceed accordingly.

Part of our investigation into the pathologists' allegations is to ensure the integrity of all open and closed investigations. The District Attorney is aware of concerns related to the Daniel Humphreys' case and has been in contact with the family.

We continue to work with the community and law enforcement partner agencies to ensure that all investigations are completed in a timely and professional manner.
