26-year-old Brittany Tamayo has been sentenced to 22 years in State Prison for her role in a Stockton hit and run crash that killed 2 people in 2014. Tamayo was driving the speeding vehicle that ran a red light, and crashed into a car carrying victims Ritchie Rasmee and Sokhunthear Hin.
Police said at the time of the crash, Tamayo and co-defendant Tevin Taylor had just left a north Stockton shopping center after stealing a woman's purse. Tamayo was arrested a day after the deadly crash. Taylor was arrested several months later during a traffic stop.
San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Murray said Tamayo will likely serve about 14 years of the 22-year sentence due to time already served in jail, and if she demonstrates good behavior in prison.
While Tamayo was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter, Taylor was found guilty of murder. Taylor returns to court next week for his sentencing.
