A San Joaquin county man has been convicted of robbing 3 area banks, and has been sentenced to 5 years in state prison.
Joseph Lee Hayes, 26, robbed banks in Tracy, Escalon and Lodi in April of 2016, and made more than one mistake that made it easier for police and prosecutors to convict. Following the Escalon robbery Hayes used a getaway truck that included the name and number of a local landscaping service. At the Lodi bank robbery he wrote his money demands on a scrap of paper that was torn from a probation violation notice. The paper included the name of the defendant's probation officer.
The conviction of Hayes was eventually gained through DNA evidence and the testimony of victims who identified him.
