"Emergency Rule 4" to Go Into Effect Today Setting Zero Bail for Certain Offenses Forcing Sheriff to Release Some Inmates Awaiting Trial

Stockton - The San Joaquin County Superior Court ordered the Sheriff's Department to implement by 5 pm today "Emergency Rule 4" as drafted by the Judicial Council and adopted by the San Joaquin County Superior Court on April 8, 2020.  This order was created to prevent the spread of Covid-19 within the jail system. What this means is that the Sheriff's Office will have to start the process of releasing inmates awaiting trial on "non-exempt" charges who are currently being held on bail.  (See link below for e xempt charges).

Due to the court's release late this afternoon of the modified bail schedule, the District Attorney's Office had limited opportunity to notify victims of crime and has concerns about public safety.  The District Attorney's Office urges any victim or witness anxious about the release of a particular inmate to check the "WhosInCustody" page of the Sheriff's Office website. (See attached link below).

-Once you enter an inmate name, click on that name, and a screen containing the inmate's information will appear.

-On the "Projected Release Date" line a link is attached to register for "Custody Status Change Notification(VINElink)."

- Please enter your information if you wish to be notified of an impending release date.

If you cannot navigate the system or have other questions regarding inmate release as a result of "Emergency Rule 4" please contact the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office during the business hours of 8 am to 4:30 pm at (209)468-2400, and our team members will be able to assist you.  Please know that the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office and our law enforcement partners are working together to ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens of our community.
