56-year Sentence for Stockton Murderer
Stockton - Today, District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced defendant Anthony Stuart was sentenced to 56 years 4 months to life in prison by the Honorable Judge Lance Jacot after a jury convicted the defendant of the murder of his own father.
On August 4, 2020, the defendant and his father were involved in an altercation in their shared apartment. The defendant left, but returned later that day and shot the victim, Wendell Stuart, in the face with a 9mm handgun. The defendant's grandmother chased him away from the scene for as long as she could, yet he managed to evade her and escape. On August 10, 2020, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Apprehension Team captured the defendant in Manteca.
Thank you to Stockton Police Department Detective Andrew Donovan, San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office Victim Advocate Hope Dunsing, the witnesses who came forward to testify, and Deputy District Attorney Donald Vaughn for their dedication to seeking justice for the victim.
