Guilty Verdict in Vehicular Homicide Case

Stockton - Yesterday, defendant Mauricio Solorio Garcia was found guilty by a jury for second degree murder in the death of Perry Douglas Burden.

According to official records, the defendant caused a multiple vehicle collision on February 14, 2020 when he drove his semi-truck loaded with construction materials into oncoming traffic.  The defendant had a blood alcohol content at the time of driving of approximately 0.17 percent. In the collision, several members of Mr. Burden's family were injured, including significant injuries to one of his children.

The defendant was also convicted of several related charges involving driving under the influence, causing injury, as well as driving without a license. The defendant also had two prior misdemeanor convictions for driving while having a blood alcohol content over a .08 percent- once in 2005 and another in 2008.

"There is no excuse for driving under the influence," said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. "The loss and trauma the Burden family suffered was completely preventable. Congratulations to Supervising Deputy District Attorney Robyn Riedel on successfully prosecuting this case and getting justice for the victim and his family."

Mauricio Garcia will return before the Honorable Judge Garber on May 28, 2021 for sentencing. He is potentially facing 15 years to life.
