Shawn Mayers Arraignment for Attempted Murder and Rape of Stockton Woman

STOCKTON - Today, District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced that, Shawn Mayers, age 21, was in court for arraignment on a complaint alleging the following crimes:

Shawn Mayers Penal Code §664/187(a) - Attempted Premeditated Murder
- Penal Code §12022(b) - Use of a Knife
- Penal Code §12022.7 - Great Bodily Injury Enhancement

Penal Code §220(a)(1) - Assault with Intent to Rape
- Penal Code §12022.3(a) - Use of weapon
- Penal Code §12022.7 - Great Bodily Injury Enhancement

Shortly after midnight on June 15, 2020, a 48 year-old woman was attacked while sleeping on a street. The victim sustained substantial injuries. Thanks to the dedication of Stockton Police Department Detectives the suspect was identified and arrested.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim of this attack.  She is facing a lengthy physical and emotional recovery, and our victim-witness team is prepared to help her through this process," said District Attorney Salazar.

Shawn Mayers was appointed a new attorney today, and will return to court on July 2, 2020 at 8:30 am in Department 8B.  The honorable Ronald Northup had previously set "no bail" for the defendant who will remain in custody pending litigation of this case.
