District Attorney's Office Appeals to Public for Witnesses to Come Forward in Highway 99 Elder Abuse Case
Stockton - Today, District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced that her office is seeking the assistance of those persons who witnessed the attempted carjacking and subsequent beating of an elderly man on March 30, 2020, on Highway 99 in Stockton, California. "This is a terrible time for all of us, the elderly in particular, and to have a suspect beat a 78 year old man, while attempting to steal his car is truly heartbreaking." There are videos circulating on social media taken by obviously concerned citizens. We ask those persons to contact the Bureau of Investigation and help provide justice to this 78 year old victim.
The suspect, Cory Rominger, age 38, was located and arrested a short distance from the scene by the California Highway Patrol. He has been charged by the District Attorney's Office. Multiple videos have been shared on the social media Facebook site, "209 Times." We ask that anyone who witnessed this event or recognizes persons in the video to contact Investigator Cody Brum at 209-468-3620 , of the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Bureau of Investigations Division. We have provided a link to the "209 Times" website and thank them for sharing the video in the pursuit of justice.
