Dating Violence Prevention Programs

In order to raise awareness and educate students, teachers, counselors, and our community, and to help prevent dating violence, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office offers two prevention programs, entitled The Choice Is Yours and Love You To Death

These programs are presented free of charge to the community of San Joaquin County.  Additionally, the programs are available as a 2-disc DVD set and have been distributed to all of the school districts of San Joaquin County.  For additional copies, please contact Suzanne Schultz, Dating Violence Prevention Program Director at (209) 468-2437.

Print-ready brochures summarizing the information in The Choice Is Your program are available in both English and Spanish and can be downloaded from the sidebar.

The Choice Is Yours

This proactive dating violence prevention program has been shared with thousands of students, teachers, counselors, and community members since it was created in 2006.  The program is designed to be given in a 55-minute class period.  This powerful program contains an actual 911 tape, crime scene and injury photos, defines dating violence, gives warning signs, statistics, explains the cycle of violence, provides tips for a safety plan, and resources for assistance.  Each student is given a brochure which is specifically designed to complement this presentation.

Love You To Death

This movie, which shows the ultimate risk a person faces when they stay in an abusive relationship, was released in November 2010, is intended as a follow-up to The Choice Is Yours, which discusses the warning signs of abusive relationships.

This movie shares the stories of three mothers who share four things in common:

  1.  They all were mothers to beautiful daughters.
  2.  Their daughters were attracted to and dated “bad boys”.
  3.  Their daughters were murdered by their “bad boys”.
  4.  All of the murders occurred here in San Joaquin County.

The movie contains 911 tapes, graphic crime scene and autopsy photos, the stories of the lives of the victims before, and leading up to their final days.
