COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave Overview - Updated 05/13/2021

Effective March 29, 2021, SB 95 provides up to 80 hours of COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave to employees who are unable to work or telework because of a qualifying COVID-19 related reasons. This leave is retroactive to January 1, 2021 and set to expire September 30, 2021.

If you took approved time off, either using accruals or unpaid, for a qualified reason for COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave between January 1, 2021 and March 28, 2021, you are eligible for retroactive supplemental paid leave not to exceed the maximum amount (e.g. reverse accrued leave usage to SPSL hours).
To ensure proper processing of request for leave related to COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave, please do the following:

  • Complete the Request for Leave of Absence COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (SPSL) form
  • Provide the dates and times of all leaves that meet that criteria
  • Submit the form to your immediate supervisor
  • If request is related to school or place of care closure/childcare unavailable, submit supporting documents to support request with request form

The above steps should be followed for use of SPSL between March 29, 2021 through September 30, 2021. Please continue to follow your Department's internal process for requesting leave and timesheet submittals.

NOTE, "Sam" makes a HUGE mistake in the "correct" portion by cross-contaminating the clean gloves by touching the door handle with them - she should have put them on in the exam room so she didn't have to touch a door handle once she had them on. This should be shared with any staff reviewing.
