Hazardous waste regulations designate a category of hazardous wastes called
"Universal Waste." This category includes many items, such as fluorescent
lamps, cathode ray tubes, instruments that contain mercury, batteries, and
other electronic devices. In California all universal wastes are banned
from the trash. For a more detailed description of California universal
wastes see the fact sheet,
Managing Universal Waste In California,
by the
California Department of
Toxic Substances Control.
To deliver the
public better information, this website has broken down Universal Waste into
smaller categories of materials. Click the "How
Do I Properly Dispose of..." for these materials.
