Tires

Back to Material List

More than 44 million worn or damaged tires were replaced during 2008 in California.  Used tires can be brought to San Joaquin County facilities for proper disposal.  State law allows for no more than 9 tires to be transported without a waste tire hauling permit and manifest.

In San Joaquin County and throughout the State of California, recycling used tires keeps a valuable resource out of our landfills.  All tires collected at County facilities are sent to a certified tire recycler here in California.  The recycler grinds the rubber, preparing it to be made into a variety of products, including rubber bark for gardens and playgrounds, city streets and sidewalks, and floor mats.
