History

North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill is owned and operated by San Joaquin County, and opened for business on November 1, 1991. The closure date for this facility is expected in 2035.

Encompassing 320 acres, this site receives an average of 496 tons of waste daily with a permitted quantity of 825 tons. During the year 2004, North County received 178,634 tons of waste.

During April 2002, diverted materials totaled 1,601 tons. This record breaking amount surpassed the County-owned Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility and Transfer Station's previous high of 1,383 tons diverted during June 2001.

Site Improvements

A new 16-acre module constructed during the summer of 2003 is now operational. Funding of approximately $3.25 million is covered by the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund (Certificates of Participation).

Hours 
Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Exceptions:  Closed New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Location 
North County is located at 17720 East Harney Lane, eight miles east of Lodi, California. Please click on map for more detailed directions.

Acceptable Wastes 
Commercial and household waste; construction/demolition waste; agricultural waste; white goods such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units; tires; small pickup loads of soil or gravel; camper shells; cabover campers (remove all thermostats and appliances); camper trailers (remove thermostats and appliances, dismantle the camper trailer into small sections, and bring a Junk Slip from DMV).

Unacceptable Wastes 
Septic tank waste; toxic materials; large dead animals; five-gallon (or larger) drums; infectious waste; liquid waste; cannery waste; hazardous waste; large loads of soil or gravel; mobile homes; RVs; camper trailers that are NOT dismantled into small sections; burned waste.

Tarping Requirement 
All loads must be
properly tarped, otherwise a double disposal fee will be charged.

Recycled Paint Program
Recycled paint is available for $ 5.00 per gallon in 5 gallon buckets only ($25 per bucket) at both Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility and Transfer Station and North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill. Call (209) 468-3066 for available colors or ask the Lovelace or North County cashiers.
