Master Gardener Program

After a short hiatus, the Master gardener program is alive and well in San Joaquin County.  The goal of the Master Gardener program is to train and develop a core of volunteers who will engage in outreach efforts directed at educating residents on gardening, landscapes, pesticides and fertilizers, water conservation and overall landscape health.  Master Gardeners provide outreach and education on the principals of recycling and the reuse of green waste and on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques as a safe and effective method of pest control that also has far-reaching environmental benefits.  Master Gardeners are also involved in the planning and preparation of school-based and community-based gardens.

The Master Gardeners want everyone to have the experience the thrill of having a lush lawn or a thriving plot of beautiful flowers or a garden full of  fresh fruits and nourishing vegetables, all grown without wasting water, using harmful pesticides and chemical fertilizers which may contaminate municipal storm water systems.

The Master Gardener Program has a FREE hotline for residents to call in order to identify pest, disease and general plant health problems along with recommendations for correcting these issues.  The information delivered through this program is based on sound scientific principals developed by University of California.  Click on the link below for more information.
