Automotive, Marine and RV Batteries

Back to Material List

All batteries are considered hazardous waste in California when they are discarded.  This includes automotive, marine, agricultural and RV lead acid, gel and amalgamated glass mat batteries.  Batteries are considered hazardous because of the toxic and/or corrosive materials contained within, but they are rich in lead and other metals and materials that can be reused and recycled into new products.  All batteries must be recycled, or taken to a household hazardous waste facility, a universal waste handler, or an authorized recycling facility for proper disposal.

There is NO COST for San Joaquin County residents to drop off these materials at the HHW Facility for proper disposal.

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE THESE ITEMS IN THE GARBAGE!
