A complete set of FEMA’s
Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for San Joaquin County were
received by the County’s Floodplain Administrator on April 20, 2009.
The FIRMs will become effective and regulatory on October 16, 2009. If
the new FIRMs - once they become effective and regulatory on October 16,
2009 - indicate the building on your property is now at a high risk for
flooding, you will be required to purchase flood insurance if you carry a
mortgage from a Federally regulated lender. Property owners who do not
currently have flood insurance, but who believe they will be required by the
final maps to purchase insurance, can lock in a lower insurance rate by
purchasing a flood insurance policy BEFORE the new FIRMs become effective
and regulatory on October 16, 2009.
