To All County Drivers:

Although County Toyota vehicles are not part of the current recall –there is a chance they could experience a similar problem, as Toyota Motors Inc is not yet sure of the actual cause. Vehicles could be added to future recalls as new information is discovered

Fleet Services monitors recall notices from manufacturers and information provided by the US Department of Transportation Office of Defects Investigation as it becomes available. To the best of our knowledge, no County vehicles are included in the Camry gas pedal or the Prius braking recalls. The recalls apply to certain, non-hybrid Camrys and 2010 Priuses.

A recall issued September 29, 2009 directing the removal of floor mats for all Camry and Prius models has been handled during normal service intervals and through direct communication with the Departments.

We are advising anyone experiencing any problems with any County vehicle to turn it into any of our shops for inspection and correction immediately. The shop supervisor will arrange to have the vehicle inspected and repaired at the Toyota dealership. Please do not hesitate to report any malfunction with your vehicle to the fleet, as your safety is our highest concern.

Toyota Recall Information

Not Just a Toyota Problem

What should I do if I experience floor mat pedal entrapment while driving?
Should the vehicle continue to accelerate rapidly after releasing the accelerator pedal, this could be an indication of floor mat interference.  If this occurs, Toyota recommends the driver take the following actions:
• First, if it is possible and safe to do so, pull back the floor mat and dislodge it from the accelerator pedal; then pull over and stop the vehicle.
• If the floor mat cannot be dislodged, then firmly and steadily step on the brake pedal with both feet. Do NOT pump the brake pedal repeatedly as this will increase the effort required to slow the vehicle.
• Shift the transmission gear selector to the Neutral (N) position and use the brakes to make a controlled stop at the side of the road and turn off the engine.
• If you are unable to put the vehicle in Neutral, turn the engine OFF, or to ACC. This will not cause loss of steering or braking control, but the power assist to these systems will be lost.
o If the vehicle is equipped with an Engine Start/Stop button, firmly and steadily push the button for at least three seconds to turn off the engine. Do NOT tap the Engine Start/Stop button.
o If the vehicle is equipped with a conventional key-ignition, turn the ignition key to the ACC position to turn off the engine. Do NOT remove the key from the ignition as this will lock the steering wheel.

What if you experience a sticking accelerator pedal while driving?
Each circumstance may vary, and drivers must use their best judgment, but Toyota recommends taking the following actions:
• If you need to stop immediately, the vehicle can be controlled by stepping on the brake pedal with both feet using firm and steady pressure.  Do not pump the brake pedal as it will deplete the vacuum utilized for the power brake assist.
• Shift the transmission gear selector to the Neutral (N) position and use the brakes to make a controlled stop at the side of the road and turn off the engine.
• If unable to put the vehicle in Neutral, turn the engine OFF.
