06-Oct-06 NIMS TRAINING IN SAN JOAQUIN
OPERATIONAL AREA
As part of its Homeland Security efforts, the federal
government has issued a new National Incident Management System
(NIMS) to be used to organize response to catastrophic events in
the United
States. The State of California has issued guidance that local
government entities must provide training in the new system to employees
who would respond to a disaster. The State is also requiring
local governmental bodies, including special districts, to formally
adopt NIMS for organizing multi-agency disaster response. In order to help local agencies with the training requirements,
the Office of Emergency Services has scheduled a series of the
introductory
NIMS course, IS700, over the next few months. Agencies can
use these free courses to complement internal training efforts and
use of the on-line course. Individuals can view scheduled courses,
and register to attend, by going to the Office of Emergency Services
website at “sjoesdata.org”. Select the link entitled “San
Joaquin Operational Area Training Program” to see the list
of scheduled courses.
In order to help with the additional requirement to formally
adopt NIMS, OES can provide a sample resolution for your use. Contact
our office for a copy. Once your governing body has adopted
this resolution, please forward a copy to our office. We
will use this information to demonstrate compliance to the State.
