California Work Opportunity & Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) Program
Our goal to improve the quality of life in our community includes
promoting client self-sufficiency. Here
we focus on providing cash benefits to families and assist them in their
efforts as they prepare themselves for or return to employment.
Since the implementation of CalWORKs in San Joaquin County, families requiring assistance have declined 25%.
For Fiscal Year 1999/2000, in collaboration with agencies within the community, HSA developed and implemented comprehensive programs that helped CalWORKs recipients gain sustainable employment. HSA's efforts ranged from the opening of the CalWORKs Employment Center for Job search/job readiness activities, to case management contracts with community based organizations (CBO's).
The graph below demonstrates the caseload decline from pre-welfare reform for fiscal year 1994/1995 to October 2000.
