Medical Waste

The purpose of this program is to protect the general public, health care facility and solid waste management personnel from injury and exposure to pathogenic organisms in medical wastes. Program activities ensure that doctors, dentists, hospitals, and so on, treat, handle, transport, store and dispose of all medical waste as specified in the California Medical Waste Management Act.

Authority: California Health and Safety Code Section 117620.
Funding: Annual Operating Permit Fees, Hourly Rate and Service Fees.
Clients/Customers: Medical/Dental/Veterinary Business Owners/Operators, Hospitals, Clinics, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Waste Management Personnel.
Workload: 59 Facilities.
