Hazardous Waste

Hazardous Waste Generator Program

The purpose of this program is protection of public health and the environment from exposure to hazardous wastes by regulation of the businesses and industries that generate hazardous waste. This is accomplished through a comprehensive program of inspection, chemical emergency response, surveillance, complaint investigation, and assistance to industry, enforcement and public education.

Authority: California Health and Safety Code Section 25200 et seq.; California Code of Regulations Title 22, Section 66001 et seq.
Funding: Annual Operating Permit Fees, Hourly Rate and Service Fees.
Clients/Customers: Business Owners/Operators, Public Agencies, Property Owners, General Public.
Workload: 1,150 Facilities.

Hazardous Waste Tiered Permitting Program

The purpose of this program is ensure that hazardous wastes treated on site prior to reuse or disposal are stored, handled and disposed of in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Inspection, surveillance and permitting is required as part of the county Unified Program.

Authority: California Health and Safety Code Sections 25200.3, 25201.5; California Code of Regulations Title 22, Section 67450.2 et seq.
Funding: Annual Operating Permit Fees, Hourly Rate and Service Fees.
Clients/Customers: Business Owners/Operators, Public Agencies.
Workload: 44 Facilities.
