Recreational Health Inspections

The purpose of this program is to assure that all public recreational waters, swimming pools and spas are free of safety hazards, disease and life threatening occurrences. This is accomplished by enforcement of laws and regulations relating to the design, construction and maintenance of pool facilities. Routine inspections are performed at public swimming pools, spas and natural bathing areas in the county. The EHD reviews and approves plans for proposed public swimming pools, spas and water parks and conducts construction inspections.

Authority: California Health and Safety Code Sections 116025 - 116068; California Code of Regulations Title 24, Sections 3101-3137.
Funding: Annual Operating Permit Fees, Hourly Rate and Service Fees.
Clients/Customers: School and Municipal Pool Owners/Operators, Business and Apartment Owners/Operators, Home Owner Associations, Tenants, Residents, General Public, Pool Contractors.
Workload: 580 active Pools/Spas/Natural Bathing areas.
