Food & Restaurant Inspections

The purpose of this program is to prevent the occurrence of foodborne illnesses and to promote safe food preparation, production and service in clean and appealing food facilities. The EHD is responsible for conducting routine inspections and issuing permits for all retail food operations in the county, responding to citizen complaints, educating food handlers and operators, and review and approval of construction plans for new and remodeled food facilities.

Authority: California Health and Safety Code Section 17961; Stockton Municipal Code Section 7-111.1(h).
Funding: Annual Operating Permit Fees, Hourly Rate and Service Fees.
Clients/Customers: Food Facility Owners/Operators, Employees, General Public.
Workload: 2,882 Facilities and 404 Temporary/Special Events and 157 Vendors.
